addendum

What if you get extra points or something for having a cookie craving and eating a carrot instead?

You're right that this is going to be a hard one to quantify. I could start at 5:00 with writing down a craving every five minutes and not stop until I fall asleep at midnight! But we do need *something* to challenge us to stop munching at night!

How about if we write down what we *plan* to eat each evening (since we all seem to do well with daytime food when we plan in advance or pack it) that keeps us on our food goals for the day, and then write down what we actually eat (every crumb! Including when Connor shoves something he doesn't want into my mouth.) and reward the person who deviates the least? This will allow us some treats when we plan them, but will I hope keep us from going overboard.
