My body seems to know when it's Tuesday and it drops a whole bunch of weight overnight. This morning I weighed 147 even. I suspect that the 148 I weighed yesterday was mostly water retention from eating all that salty bacon! I was just hoping to not be over 148 this morning, so I'm happy with the 147, even if it's still above my November 1 low weight.
Yesterday's food: oatmeal for breakfast, cottage cheese and pears, pretzles, and an apple for lunch, almonds and string cheese for snack, spaghetti and meatballs with spinach salad for dinner. And several lollipops and packages of Smarties after dinner. Why don't I just throw the rest of the candy out? I don't even enjoy it particularly!
I got to the gym in the afternoon and ended up on one of the bicycles since the treadmills were taken. I haven't been on an exercise bike in probably ten years and was worried that I'd discover that all the walking and running I've been doing wasn't really a good enough workout and that these bikes would show how out of shape I still am. But that didn't happen--I set it first at level six then worked up to level eight, which felt pretty comfortable (except the seat height was wrong so I couldn't pedal as effectively as I should have been able to). My heart rate stayed lower than it does when I'm on the treadmill, but it still felt like a good workout. In the evening I had planned to do a pilates dvd but that didn't ever happen--I was madly cleaning house because we have a friend coming over for dinner Wednesday and you couldn't actually see the surface of the dining room table. Plus Connor stayed up until 1 a.m.
112 ounces of water yesterday. I don't feel as waterlogged this week as I did last week--I think I'm getting used to all this liquid.

Me too?
Oh wait...I wasn't at Emily's this weekend...
I am up to a horrible 166 this morning. I am certain part of it is water retention--yesterday I drank 72 oz of water at work plus a cup of hot chocolate and I only went to the bathroom once. I had another bottle at home last night and some diet soda with dinner. I am pretty sure most of it is still hung up inside me somewhere. My water intake has been waning...I lose interest in the plain stuff and just haven't made it to the store to get something more interesting.
Food yesterday: cottage cheese & pears, banana, orange, carrots, campbells vegetable soup, chips ahoy crisps, some trail mix and veggie chicken fajitas with a small spoonful of spanish rice. I actually planned the day so I ate something small every two hours. I am going to try it again today, although Joe made me this icky tuna fish sandwich for lunch that I may have to toss in favor of some soup from somewhere.
Also I am getting sick--a sinus infection. I can hardly turn my head and my ears feel like they may explode. I get the worst sinus infections.
Oh! Here's a fun fact for you that I learned in Dresden: some baskets are what they call "lefties." Anybody know what that means??? Sandra & I didn't until a lady in one of the shops explained. (If you want to search for the answer, stop reading because I am going to tell you what they are...)
A leftie is when the top splint around the rim of the basket points clockwise. It is because the weaver was lefthanded. The majority of weavers (obviously) are right handed, so those top splints point counterclockwise. I am proud to report I own 3 lefties. And yes, I ran right home and checked once I knew what it was. Lefties are worth more money to collectors. I think I may be a little obsessed with baskets. What do you think???????????

I was up today too
thanks to Emily! 8-) If you add together my.8, Katie's .8, Sarah's .4 Emily you have gained 2 pounds this weekend! Better get exercising. I do feel vindicated a little in the fact that we left you behind a good chunk of French Toast casserole and sausage and egg casserole. Your Scot heritage will not allow you to throw it out. Hee hee.
My water hasn't been bad - Wed - 96, Thurs - 88, Friday -80, Sat - 96, Sunday - 80 today so far 64 (but I will probaby get in another 32 before bed). It doesn't seem to have helped at all. I have been holding steady at 206 - 206.8. Tomorrow is weigh-in and I strongly suspect the horribly eating on Sunday will have caught up with me then. Sigh. I have eased up on the Halloween candy - but I am back on Girl Scout cookies. Does anyone want almost 2 full cases of cookies. Sigh.
I didn't go to work today. I had planned the day off before I made the plans for the weekend - and never put it back on. So I took it off. 8-) I needed a "weekend" day anyway. I didn't get much done however. Oh well. I did Pilates first thing this morning, but I only did through the first 15 exercises. I was losing form (not that mine is great anyway) and I decided I should quit while I was ahead. Katie has a cantor rehearsal tonight, but I am hoping I can convince her to do something when she gets back. (Or I will sit quietly in my room pretending I am invisible so she won't ask me to exercise...)

Only if I may too!!
I am hereby assigning my 0.8lbs weight gain to Emily Angerer Crawford. Do I need a witness? I think I can procure one. Saturday morning I weighed in at 149, which I was VERY pleased with, and unsurprised, since I had been peeing out everything I've put into my body. Today I was 149.8. phhhbbbtttt.
I, too, was fairly sad in the water department this weekend. Saturday I drank 108oz (13.5 points), which isn't too bad. I didn't keep careful count yesterday, but I think it was only around 64oz (8 points). I pretty much existed on coffee yesterday, because I was ridiculously tired and kinda nauseated, so I wasn't wanting to eat.
Today I've been much better. I have had 2 bottles of water and a bathroom cup of water, plus two bottles of unsweetened cranberry juice and water blend (I think I have a small kidney stone--or rather, I think I passed a small kidney stone last night) which I am SO counting, because it has no sugar, no caffeine, almost no calories, and no redeeming flavor qualities. =) Amy made me drink the cranberry juice because I had been complaining of a small sharp cramp/pain since this water challenge began, and then last night I was in such agony--nauseated, crampy, dizzy, tired, and when Charles VERY gently touched the side of my back by my kidney, I jumped and just about passed out. Amy suggested the kidney stone. If it was, it must have been VERY small, because while I was in quite a bit of pain, it wasn't the pain I would expect from a kidney stone. I've heard a comparison between passing kidney stones and labor, and if that was what labor is like, heck, I'll have a dozen kids! (but I'm only raising 2--the rest will have to be surrogate) ANYWAY, I woke up today feeling fine, so I think I managed to pass it. But thus the cranberry juice. Did I just go on too long of a tangent? Everybody still with me? So anyway, it's only 4:30 and I've already had 80oz of water-like substance, plus I have a cantor rehearsal tonight, so I'm bound to drink at least 2 more bottles there.
Food for today has been the standard--cereal/milk/applesauce for breakfast, grapes for snack, leftover coconut chicken with peas and stuff for lunch, Wheat Thins and cheese for snack (boring trivia--what is unique about the sentence "The quick brown fox...blah blah blah") and V8 for my other veggie. Tonight should be good. I put Moroccan beef stew with cous cous in the crock pot this morning. I've been looking forward to it all day.

May I?
I'd like to assign the half pound I gained this weekend to Emily, because I certainly don't think I should be held responsible for it when I ate very moderately the entire weekend except for the times I was at her house. On the road, I was great--two Thin Mint cookies as a snack each day, grilled chicken salad with fat-free dressing for lunch Saturday and dinner Sunday, 210 calories worth of yogurt and waffle for breakfast Sunday. And then I ate hamburger, chips, and beer, ten pounds of bacon, sausage and egg casserole, french toast casserole, etc. Added a bit of melon to breakfast and tomato to dinner to pretend to get some healthy food. That, plus two days of sitting still pretty much all day, adds up to a half pound weight gain (more or less--I was 147.6 on Saturday morning and 148 even this morning).
I was bad about water, especially on Saturday. My total that day was 42 ounces. I was better Sunday--I got 78 ounces. Still not ideal, but not as bad. And lest I forget, Friday's total was 102 ounces.
Julie, your Longaberger trip sounds like it was fun! And six miles of walking in one day is impressive!

Hmmm...not sure what happened...
I actually did type something in that one post besides the title, but it must be lost in cyberspace somewhere. Oh well. The title was the moral of the story anyways...
So, I've been MIA for a few days, spending bazillions of dollars at the Longaberger Homestead in Ohio. I must say, that certainly was a fun trip. The weather was amazing. The shopping was incredible in Dresden and at the homestead. And the bus trip was organized SO well. I won the cracker basket set on the bus. Sandra won the $80 Christmas basket, and Marian won the darning basket set. Excellent prizes. We were given the medium berry basket for going on the trip as well. We had tea at the Longaberger tea house and I bought this AWESOME fruit tea that isn't really tea--no leaves. It is dried strawberries and kiwi. It occurred to me once I got home that I should have grabbed several packages of it, so I have been scoping that out online today. Sometimes I get so caught up in the moment I totally overlook things like that. I got 2 baskets signed by Longaberger family members while we were at the homestead as well. I can't wait to go next year. Looks like they are shooting for a mid-October date in 2006.
WHile the trip was great, the food was not good food. My water intake was poor because of the 6-7 hour bus ride. I nearly peed myself on the way there waiting for someone to get out of the bus restroom, only to get in there and discover they were doing things other than peeing and it was incredibly unpleasant. I didn't use it again. I did at least drink a tall glass with each meal.
I did walk nearly 6 miles on Friday (just over 11,000 steps according to my pedometer) and I went for a swim Friday night in the pool. Marian & I actually did laps. I am very much considering finding a gym with a pool. Swimming is an amazing workout and you don't get all nasty and sweaty. Then we spent 15 minutes in the hot tub before we went back up to our room for the night.
So, I am home now, and I am getting back on track.

Before I forget
Friday's water intake was 116oz, or 14.5points. Hee hee! I'm enjoying this challenge!

I used a measuring cup!
Our bathroom cup is 16 ounces if you fill it up to 1/2 an inch from the top!
Water yesterday was lower - 88 - so 11 points. Today I am already behind at only 48 ounces so far... I have some chugging to do. It hasn't helped so far - I was 206.2 today. But I think I am pre-period bloating too. Hopefully it will all go away suddenly.
I am still feeling very dry in the mouth and I haven't been to the potty quite as much as the past few days. I am worrying already about the drive to VA tomorrow - I tend to avoid drinking much on long car trips for the logical reason that there might not be a toilet when I need one!! But Katie will be there too - so maybe we will just drink and pee, and drink and pee. 8-)
Katie and I had no vegetables last night. Not one green crumb to be found. I must say - I MISSED them! We went veggie-less for dinner, and I felt very cheated. We did our ballet DVD. I am SO ungraceful. My arm looks like a crab claws and my supporting leg is flexed to the point that my toes curl up. But it is getting easier.

See? You can just skip the title entirely! But I think Emily wins the creative title contest for "waterblogged" yesterday!
Yesterday's water intake was 102 ounces. Interestingly, I was hitting the bathroom less yesterday than the day before, even though I drank more water. My theory is that on the first day, I was seriously rehydrating myself after a week of not drinking nearly as much as I usually do, so my body spent the day flushing out all of the water I had retained in that time. The scale agrees with me--I've gone from 149.4 on Monday down to 147.6 today.
Food--same old, same old. I made black beans and rice for dinner with fresh tomato salsa, so I actually ate real food! I'm back to having yogurt, pretzles, and fruit for lunch.
Exercise--I got the Pilates Maximum Burn Basics DVD yesterday so I did it last night. It's the same pilates moves, but done with hand weights and at a faster pace, so you get more of a workout. I'm still amazed that I'm now able to do the moves that require you to turn yourself upside down with your legs over your head and behind you. I don't think I've done anything like that since I was 11. I also noticed last night that I've got nice, tight abdominal muscles (not all over yet, but in the center at least) but they are still covered with a thick layer of fat and saggy skin! Yuck.

update
OK, so re-reading I've realized that Amy is counting our bathroom glass at 16 oz, and I was only doing 12, so add on another 16 oz for me. 2 more points!
I've been much thirstier since we started doing this. My mouth seems permanently dry. What's up with that?

Y'all are MEAN!
OK, so SOME of just have jobs where we CAN'T sit at a computer all day every day, which makes posting just a LITTLE more difficult! Yeah, I'm just making excuses, I know, but I seriously just don't have the energy to post by the time I actually am able to sit down at the computer. I get as far as reading the blog about every other day, but then I'm worn out from all of your exercise, and can't bring myself to do it. =)
And as to my car-bomb problem? All I have to say is that I can count on my two hands the number of pieces of halloween candy I've had (if you count a mini-box of Junior Mints as *one* piece). How many have YOU had? huh? huh? huh? That's what I thought.
OK. So I'm posting now for two weeks worth of weigh-ins. Last Tuesday I was just under 151, like Sarah said. I had been hovering around 150-151 most of the week, after my nice visit into the 140s, and settled right around 150.6 or 8, not entirely sure. Then I dipped down on Wednesday and again Friday into the 140s, and this Tuesday I was 149.6. But I've spent the rest of this week right at 150. Darnit! I think the fact that Amy and I have TOTALLY slacked off on the exercise is really making a difference with me! And isn't it funny that we really started slipping right around the time that she issued the exercise challenge? hmmm..... We did work out last night (did ballet again, which hurts a little less each time).
So, water challenge, huh? I'm with Emily in that I'm not actually hoping to WIN this one. I'd just like to make myself drink more water. Wednesday I was doing really well (ended with 92oz, or just under 12 points. Is that 11.5?) , although I ran into problems with it. I can't just get up and go to the bathroom whenever I want! I nearly popped during choir, to the point of running out into the hallway and grabbing the nearest adult and saying "here, make sure they don't tear my room apart!" as I darted into the bathroom. Yesterday I did really well again, because I was in a seminar all day so I was able to take more bathroom breaks (and boy did I welcome them, as this was a REALLY boring day!!) I think the final count was 124 (five of my 20oz bottle during the day, plus 2 of our bathroom water glass). So that's 15.5 Putting me at a grand total (thus far) of 27 points. Today I don't think I'm going to do as well. I'm a little skittish after the bathroom problem on Wednesday, so I'm trying to pace myself a little better. While I didn't so much mind leaving the middle school choir alone for 45 seconds, I really can't do it with kindergarten and second grade, who I have this afternoon. So I'm only at about 22oz so far.
OK, did I leave anything out? I think that's it.
Oh! BTW: A pig's gruntle is his snout.

Craving Carbs
What is UP? I feel like I am SO hungry today. I ate my cereal and milk for breakfast - and I started getting my normal "please eat more" pangs at about 11am. So I went into my lunch box and NOTHING was appealing... I had fruit, veggies, and yogurt waiting for me. My LUNCH today was a pack of Easy Mac (which I KNOW is bad for you, but we had nothing else in the house...). I just ate that mixed with my broccoli. It was good - but I am still looking for crackers or bread or SOMETHING. I would even be happy with protein - cottage cheese or cheese sticks or a hamburger. Sigh
Maybe I will eat my apple. I drank more water. I am up to 48 oz so far. I hope to kill another 32 before I go home today.

Waterblogged
Yesterday I went through four and a half bottles of water, plus eight ounces in the morning and another eight at bedtime with my vitamins, so that puts me at about eleven eight-ounce servings, or 88 ounces. I usually get through about two bottles in a day, plus the water at bedtime, so I doubled my normal intake! I'm not aiming to win this competition -- my goal is to get enough water, and I actually did that, hooray! Today I didn't start the day quite as swimmingly, but I'm working on a bottle now, so there's hope. I'm having to go to the bathroom more but not dramatically so -- I suspect I've been pretty under-hydrated. Surprisingly my weight was down a bit today -- I thought I'd still be carrying some of that water around with me.
I had my usual breakfast yesterday, and for lunch I had yogurt, and I had morning snacks of almonds and a banana. For dinner we had leftover grilled chicken, plus a salad (smallish) and green pepper slices (which everybody ate really well, even Alexander, who used to think he didn't like green peppers), and a half a baked potato with the skin, and milk to drink. During the afternoon I had snacks of string cheese and Skittles. I had dessert of a small bowl of homemade ice cream. (I say "homemade" like that makes it somehow healthier -- I guess it is, because we use half and half instead of heavy cream because it's so much cheaper and still yummy -- but it's still bad for me!) I still ate candy, but, like Sarah, we're getting down to only the fruity fat-free candies, so it's not so bad.
I went to the gym and did 45 minutes on the bike. I'm watching my heart rate carefully to keep it in the right range; I tend to overdo it. I didn't exercise on Tuesday but my eating that day was good -- almost no candy.

Thursday was rough
Let's see...I left off at lunch yesterday. I ended up getting soup from Giant to go with my salad because the office was FREEZING. The choices weren't so great, but I got the least offensive soup Giant had. I also got a fat free Fig Newton. That was an unintended consequence of having to wait in line to pay.
Dinner was awful. A scone and brownie at Let's Dish, then chicken fingers and a frosty from Wendy's. I ate the chicken, but only half the frosty and Joe ate the rest.
As far as water, I had 4 bottles and then a cup full at Let's Dish, so that is about 72 oz. I backed off in the afternoon from water because it got boring and running to the bathroom got old. Today I know I will not drink as much water because there are no water tanks down here at DPW and I refuse to drink the water from the faucets. I only brought one bottle with me, but I will get another at lunchtime. A big one.
No exercise yesterday either. Probably will be none today because Marian is coming home with me. Maybe I'll see if she wants to go for a walk. She is staying the night because we have to get on a bus at 3:30 tomorrow morning to go visit the Longaberger Homestead--Amy bailed on us by the way ;^) Just kidding--she has her test for her class Saturday so it didn't work out this time. Tomorrow I bet we will walk miles though. I am taking my pedometer to check that out. We will be shopping in Dresden. I'll be MIA until at least Sunday because of the trip.

Completely out of titles
I was worried about what my diet would be yesterday--I had a Chamber of Commerce lunch (me! Never thought I'd end up at one of those!) to go to, and any catered lunch is always going to be stuff you wouldn't normally eat, made even more difficult by the fact that you don't have much choice--you eat what they put in front of you. Well, sure enough this was really not lunch food--more like a full dinner--but I still managed to eat sensibly. I had a big salad with about two teaspoons of a vinagrette dressing; the main course was some kind of baked chicken breast with peppery seasoning and smothered with melted cheese--I pulled the cheese off and ate half of the serving--mashed potatoes with I think leeks (not a favorite for me, so I only ate four or five bites), and surprisingly good vegetables--steamed asparagus, carrots, and a broiled tomato. So I certainly got my vegetables in yesterday. Dessert, fortunately , was not even tempting--pumpkin pie. Can't stand it. So I came off pretty well. My only complaint was that I had a glass of water that I drank pretty quickly, but then no one came around the whole time to refill the glasses, so I didn't get much water there. I have to say, though--this lunch was at the Sheraton in Columbia, and except for the servers not bringing around more water, it was really nice--the food was much better prepared than almost any hotel meal I've had before, including at fancy weddings. Dinner was a completely different matter--I had Halloween candy (about five or six pieces again, but since we're down to all lollipops and gummi Lifesavers, the calorie count wasn't as high as it was last week with the same amount of candy!), french fries, milk, and a pear. It was a weird night. I had intended to make myself some fish (the kids were having fish sticks, french fries, and peas) but the phone kept ringing all night and I just never got around to making anything for myself!
My water intake over the day was good--I had 94 ounces. Exercise was also good--I ran 2.6 miles on the treadmill and did a pilates abs workout at night. My weight seems to be going back down (I was at 148 even this morning) so I think I'm back on track!
So weird thing: I promised to reward myself for each five pounds lost. I was intending to get the Twinkling H2O paints, but for my first five pounds I got a gym bag instead. Now that I've lost another five pounds (on and off) instead of the paints, I'm wanting to get a new exercise video. Is that just because my current obsession is with exercise? Maybe I should get the paints just to overcome the obsession.

Going to bed hungry
I wasn't super hungry last night - but I felt like eating something. BUT - I was good and resisted the urge thinking that I didn't need the calories - and I had been really bad yesterday with my eating. THEN - I woke up at 3 in the morning hungry enough to get up and go downstairs to eat something. The problem with this is at 3 in the morning, I am not inclined to eat "good for you" foods. Nope. I was aware enough to know that I didn't want to eat a Pop Tart (the last time I was up in the middle of the night food). So I at Samoas. Not a reasonable 2 cookie portion of Samoas. I think I ate six.
So - the lesson here is - if you feel hungry at 11pm, you should eat something. 8-)
Water yesterday was good - I think I finished the day at 12 8 oz portions = 96oz - but it may have actually been 16 oz more... but I will go with 12 points.
This morning I woke up with a dry mouth (the cookies didn't help I am sure) and those bed/sheet marks all over my arms which are usually associated with dehydration. I don't get it.
I have had 32 oz so far today (two full bathroom glasses). I have to go to the bathroom now...

Water Observations
OK - I have been drinking A LOT today... By 1pm I had 6 8 oz glasses of water. Then I finished my 16 oz bottle coming home from work - and I have had another one since then... So - So far I am at 80 ounces today. That is about 5 times more than I normally drink in a day. But what is weird is that I am VERY thirsty now. I don't get it. I am super hydrated supposedly - but my mouth feels like summer in a desert. This is good - because I am inclined to drink more.
I made about 30 trips to the bathroom up until this afternoon - but probably only one trip since 5pm. Who knows. I have always thought my body is not quite normal.
Weight this morning was exactly what it was yesterday - 206. I haven't exercisd yet and now I am wishing I did it this morning. Sigh.

Pop Tarts have evil powers...
I was going to cave and go get a pop tart from the vending machine (and rationalize while I ate it) because I am still really hungry even after eating breakfast and when I walked over to it, there were NO POPTARTS. So I didn't eat one. Good for me I guess. But I am still hungry. I may have to break into my lunch time food early. I should have had more for dinner last night--just a bowl of tomato soup.
No real exercise yesterday either. I was very tired and completely unmotivated. Probably won't do any tonight either seeing as Marian & I have a Let's Dish date at 5:30...
