Would someone please tell me why I'm gaining weight?

This is insane. I was 143 on Tuesday and today I'm 144.8. I've been eating normally (not religiously counting calories, but not eating anything extra, and no parties or meals out) and exercising really well (two days swimming, two days running, one day commuting by bike this past week). And there's no indication that I'm retaining water either. So what's up with gaining nearly two pounds in four days?

Hibernation. Every fall we have this same string of posts. It is normal, typical and healthy for our bodies to begin to conserve for the long winter months ahead. Our social evolution (central heating, heated cars, mass produced foods stuff) has progressed WAY faster than normal evolution. Our bodies are still functioning as they did for our - not even ancestors - grandparents and great grandparents, etc. needed them to function, namely preparing for winter. Our metabolism slows and we start to store more fat. It actually makes sense - it is just annoying.
