I've been trying that candy experiment Emily mentioned--eating healthy meals, exercising regularly and vigorously, and scarfing a million pieces of candy a day to see if this would allow me to maintain my weight. Doesn't work. You gain weight. I was up to 148.8 this morning.
OK, it wasn't an experiment--just my complete and total lack of willpower with candy in the house. Night is the worst. I can usually hold off until the evening, but once I start, I can't stop.
My meals have been pretty good recently--breakfasts have always been either cereal and milk or a nutrigrain bar, almonds for snack, lunch is always either yogurt and pretzles or a turkey and lettuce sandwich with some kind of fruit to go along with it. I've been bringing a string cheese for snack in the afternoon but not eating it. Dinners haven't been as healthy, but I've been doing more than grazing mindlessly (I made meatballs with noodles and gravy one night then had it for leftovers another night, along with a vegetable of course; last night we were exhausted and ordered pizza) and I've been keeping my portions small. But that candy keeps getting in the way of healthy eating!
Exercise has also been really good--I did the advanced pilates video on Thursday, ran 2.5 miles on the treadmill Friday, went hiking at the state park (again 2.5 miles, but slowly because the kids were along) yesterday and then did two pilates videos at night. I haven't yet gone for my run today, but I'll do that when Brian gets home from church--Connor conked out last night around 5:00 and we couldn't get him to wake up, then he was up at 1:30 a.m. until 8 a.m. so rather than drag him to church, Brian and I are taking turns. I'm absolutely determined to stay away from the candy today--I've lasted five hours so far. If I'm tempted, I'm going to call one of you guys to talk me out of it, so stay by your phones!
Editing to add: maybe the candy experiment IS working--I just read my post from Friday and my weight that day was also 148.8! But yesterday it was 148.6, and of course I had that unnaturally low weight on Tuesday before I really started eating the candy. But maybe I haven't done as much damage as I thought.
